Corona for thought - Bigger than me

Events that happen at a large scale, offer a very renewed perspective on life. Life can often feel like an auto-pilot and moments of reflection are for most rare. A pandemic on a global scale like this is almost forcing us to think big : 1) We are facing an invisible force like a natural disaster for which we cannot point fingers. 2) This is truly global , we are all battling this, different levels of severity, yes, but battling nonetheless 3) Life’s slowed down (almost to a halt in certain places) offering us a societal pause 4) When things don’t go as planned, they remind you of the invisible calculus at play.
Having said that, I feel like I am living in an air of “discontent”. The mood is not “reflective”, rather its “selfish discontent”. When this is over, psychologist will publish the graph of societal mood in the pandemic, and use this to make predictions in the future so far. From what I’ve seen so far it started with “ thanks God its not us” , “they could have done better”, “its coming, let me get my affairs in order, “its here, what does it mean for me”…. It feels pretty self-centred, and in a limited radius.
Heroes have emerged, good samaritans have shined, but, there’s millions of innovative entries in the complaint register. Entries like : “can’t even get out of home - going insane” (not thinking of those, who’d be jubilant just to have a home or those in ICUs).
Somewhere thousands of miles away, a virus jumped the species boundary into humans. Over the course of just couple of months it has crippled us all. A microscopic being has put all our technological advancements into question and put us back into survival mode. It’s very difficult to go beyond your radius and think bigger, but think of the microscopic being , the globe and the cosmos. Life is bigger than you.
